Waiting For The Romance To Come Back I by Fabian Perez

From memory ‘Waiting For The Romance To Come Back I’ is the earliest Fabian limited edition I remember seeing and was from the days when they were published solely as paper prints.

It was a standout image even back then, but only after did I realise it was a self-portrait of Fabian!

Who is this well dressed black suited figure? long hair with a beard and cutting a dashing figure in a suit; why was is waiting on the steps and what Romance is missing? A stylish figurative painting but leaving the viewer with so many questions!

There remains a hopeful romantic innocence with the print, the young man sat in front of an old painted green door and if you notice, a wrapped red rose placed carefully to the step beside him – perhaps his ‘date’ is moments away.

This has spawned more limited editions canvas and deluxe versions, a book of the same title and a stunning bronze.

Later we would see sequels: ‘Waiting For The Romance To Come Back - Lucy’ (finally we get to see his ‘date’) and ‘Waiting For The Romance To Come Back II’ - featuring an old man lying on the ground, perhaps with the same wrapped red rose but ultimately a much more sombre painting.

This is Fabian's first major book launch 'Waiting For The Romance To Come back,' a stunning hardback by publisher Robert Bane Editions.

This beautiful book is full of Fabian Perez original and limited edition paintings and is a wonderful keepsake and much more than a coffee table perusal.

It has its own dust jacket and also features a signed limited edition print of a Tango scene (inside and ready for framing).

The book has 269 pages, the signed print size is 27 x 29 cm & the book itself is 30 x 31 cm.

A welcome addition the 'Fabian Perez - Bronze Sculpture collection' - and perhaps the one fans have been most waiting for!

Clearly a self-portrait Bronze sculpture of the great man himself, as Fabian sits perched on some old concrete stairs as per the original limited edition picture: 'Waiting For The Romance To Come Back I.'

That picture launched many years ago in the 1990s and catapulted the artist to international art fame and fortune, selling out in galleries the length and breadth of the UK, USA and beyond!

With paint brushes in hand, this is very reminiscent of ‘Neo-Emotionalism - The New Era’ (2019) - Book, Print and Original painting, launched with some fanfare at the estate of Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana.
