My mother and father, brother and sister had diverse talents in art. But I am sure that my roots in art come directly from my grandfather. He was an excellent artist, which went so far as to paint Arab traders silk trade in the backs of camels during the war when it was published in Egypt. I have been told that he owned all kinds of teams, but unfortunately, the war stole my grandfather then over time stole his team of art, which, unfortunately, I did not get to meet one of them!
During my childhood I seemed to be constantly trying to find scraps of paper to draw, never seems to be enough. Pencils, paper and glue are a luxury that is only granted to me as a birthday or Christmas present, however, a day gods smiled at me and somebody dropped a roll of wallpaper in my lap! It must have been like winning the lottery, there must have been a million miles from drawing could be done on the back of the roll.
I remember that was about 10yrs of age when in reality dawned on me that I wanted to be an artist. It was the end of a few days in the run-up to Christmas, I was in school and the lesson is to make a Christmas card from our parents. I drew Santa sitting in a car vintage yellow, my teacher was so happy with my card, which showed it to my class. This was the first time in my life that I was recognized for an achievement, and that I was good at something! - No stop there on me.
