Charles has been painting since the early'60s and mid-80s acquired a passion for the East and their cultures. In 1991, its first show of a man was staged at the Mall Galleries in London and was unique in offering Japan's national sport, sumo. In more recent times Charles has worked closely with the Royal Shakespeare Company, which includes a number of productions, as Tim Albery's Macbeth and Michael Attenborough's The Herbal Bed. It has also formed a close relationship with the Royal Ballet, who works extensively with leading dancers including Miyako Yoshida and Darcey Bussell. In 2000, this commitment to the implementation stage and made him a finalist in the prestigious Garrick / Milne Prize.
Today Charles describes himself as a contemporary figurative realistic, focusing on portraits, women and the way dance. He prepares the graphite and charcoal studies before developing his paintings in oil, and its accuracy and art allows you to create highly sought pieces that were collected by a wide audience. He now works from a study that is attached to his house in the rural borders of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, where he lives with his wife Susie.
