Born in Perth, Western Australia, Rolf Harris moved to London aged twenty-two in the hopes of perusing a career as a portrait artist. It was after a chance meeting with impressionist painter Bill Hayward Veal that the young Harris became his protégé…and the rest, they say, is history.

However, the life and history of Rolf Harris isn’t quite as simple as that, as although art was and still remains a big part of his life, it was in fact his stage and television performances that made Rolf Harris a much-loved household name, not only in his homeland but across the United Kingdom and beyond.

To define Rolf Harris by genre is an impossible task, as to many he is an artist, musician, singer/songwriter, comedian, or even more simply a fantastic television personality. What makes Rolf Harris so great is that he is all of these things, and that although he defies categorisation there is one thing that we can all agree on; his outstanding creative talent.
